Urology

Urology is a surgical medical speciality dealing with diagnostics and therapy of the urinary system and male sex organs. Urology focuses not only on treatment but also on consultancy regarding urination disorders and female and male incontinency. It cooperates closely with experts in the field of sexology and gynaecology, surgery, endocrinology or venerology. Urology belongs to the surgical specialities but nowadays about one third of patients are treated by medications and approximately 70 percent of operations are so-called mini-invasive surgery techniques – endoscopy or laparoscopy.

A urologist deals, for example, with the issues of prostate enlargement, treatment of stones in the urinary tract, treatment of inflammatory diseases, urological tumours and treatment of congenital defects. Nowadays, urologists also deal with the problem of incontinency.
