Preventive medicine

We offer our clients these preventative check-ups:

  • Comprehensive preventative check-up

  • Preventative oncology check-up

  • Preventative cardiology check-up

Comprehensive preventative check-up

A preventive examination with a general practitioner is a comprehensive examination that everyone should request at least once every two years, even if they have no apparent health problems. People who work at a fast pace and in a stressful environment should undergo an examination every year. The aim of a preventive exam is to detect any hidden signs of incipient disease that could have a serious impact on one’s future state of health.

Length of examination:

The examination takes 60 minutes with a general practitioner, 15-30 minutes with a nurse (blood samples taken) and then 30 minutes with a general practitioner (follow-up).

What does a preventive examination include?

  • Analysis of patient’s and family’s medical history
  • A thorough physical examination (measurement and analysis of blood pressure, weight, height, BMI, body temperature and general examinations of muscle and axial body posture as well as neurological, cardio-pulmonary, vascular, gastrointestinal and urogenital systems)
  • Blood sampling
  • Laboratory testing of urine and sediment
  • Fecal occult blood test to help identify colon cancer with patients older than 45 years
  • Hearing examination using an audiometer
  • Indicative eye examination
  • ECG

Results:

A consultation during which your doctor will go through the results of your examinations in detail will follow approximately one week after a preventive examination. You will receive specific recommendations and a report after a comprehensive assessment of all tests.

What you should know:

A preventive examination can be carried by a general practitioner at all our branches. It is important to book at least a week prior to your planned visit. The examination at CMC takes place in the morning on an empty stomach.

Further examinations sometimes recommended by the doctor following a preventive health examination may be recommended (based on family/personal health history, a clinic examination or laboratory results) and are not a part of the preventive examination. For an additional fee, they can also be carried out at CMC and can be one of the following:

  • Spirometry
  • Chest X-Ray (with abnormal spirometry results with smokers above the age of 40)
  • Holter monitoring for cases of suspected heart rhythm disorders
  • Celiac screening (IgA, anti-TTG and anti-EMA)
  • Abdominal ultrasound examination including the kidneys, thyroid (as well as prostate for men)
  • Colonoscopy and gastroscopy to rule out suspected cases of digestive tract disorders (we book a visit for you outside of CMC)
  • Consultation with a dietitian (obesity, diabetes, high-cholesterol levels and liver function disorders)
  • Eye exams and prescriptions of new corrective means (glasses, lenses etc.)
  • Skin and birthmark/mole examination by a dermatologist
  • ENT examination (suspected cases of focal infections in the ENT region, sleep apnea, snoring etc.)
  • Gynecology examination
  • Mammography and breast ultrasound
  • Urological examination (frequent urinary tract infections, increased PSA levels etc.)
  • Examination by a physiotherapy and rehabilitation doctor in case of problems with the spine or incorrect body posture

Preventative oncology check-up (cancer screening)

The key to successful treatment of any type of cancer lies in identifying a health problem as soon as it becomes apparent, significantly increasing the chances of successful treatment. We therefore offer preventive oncology examinations with a subsequent program of systematic recommendations for a healthy life. This cancer screening is designed to detect cancerous diseases such as colon cancer, lung cancer, bladder cancer, melanoma, liver cancer, cervical cancer, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. The program is aimed at preventing malignant tumors in people who have no symptoms but due to their family health history and other individual parameters consider it important to know their health state and to determine any potential cancer in time.

Length of examination:

All necessary examinations can be carried out at CMC in Prague 6 within one day. Under optimal conditions, these tests can be managed within 3 to 3.5 hours, including an X-Ray at the Military University Hospital (ÚVN). A mammography and breast examination is carried out another day at The Institute for the Care of Mother and Child (ÚPMD) or the Breast Institute at the soonest possible time.

What does the examination include?

  • Analysis of patient’s and family’s medical history
  • A thorough physical examination (measurement and analysis of blood pressure, weight, height, BMI, body temperature and general examinations of muscle and axial body posture as well as neurological, cardio-pulmonary, vascular, gastrointestinal and urogenital systems)
  • Blood sampling (including laboratory blood analysis focused on tumor markers and prostate cancer
  • Laboratory testing of urine and sediment
  • Fecal occult blood test to help identify colon cancer with patients older than 45 years
  • Hearing examination using an audiometer
  • Indicative eye examination
  • Abdominal ultrasound examination
  • ECG
  • Chest X-Ray (at the Military University Hospital, Prague (ÚVN))
  • Skin and birthmark/mole examination by a dermatologist
  • Mammography and breast ultrasound

Results:

A client receives a detailed medical report after a comprehensive assessment of all tests. On this basis, the client also obtains specific recommendations on what to avoid and how to change their lifestyle in order to reduce the risk of cancer.

In the event of initial positive test results where a non-cancerous illness is detected, further diagnosis and an appropriate therapeutic procedure with a relevant professional is immediately recommended. Upon discovery of cancer, we immediately provide the client with the best available treatment and care.

  • Colonoscopy and gastroscopy to rule out suspected cases of digestive tract disorders (we book a visit for you outside of CMC)

Preventative cardiology check-up

A preventive cardiology examination can detect incipient cardiovascular disease that starts out without any apparent symptoms. A preventive examination is appropriate for anyone, but should be considered in particular by people who lead a demanding lifestyle full of stress, smokers, people suffering from obesity and diabetes, and of course anyone who has a family history of cardiovascular disease, such as coronary heart disease, coronary disease of the lower limbs or strokes.

Examinations schedule:

A visit to CMC takes place in the morning on an empty stomach. The client then undergoes individual tests once samples are taken. Ideally, this examination is divided into two parts, i.e. on two separate dates. The first part of the visit takes place with a cardiologist, while the second part should include a bicycle ergometry test. You should take sports clothing and a towel with you for this exam. You will receive all necessary information from us upon booking an appointment.

Length of examination:

Ideally, the cardiology examination is divided into two parts. You will complete the first part of the examination with a cardiologist, which takes a minimum of 60 minutes. The second part of the examination includes a bicycle ergometry test, which also requires approximately 60 minutes. For specialised echocardiographic examination (already paid for as part of the examination) you will need an additional 30 minutes.

  • Blood sampling
  • Laboratory testing of urine and sediment
  • Fecal occult blood test to help identify colon cancer with patients older than 45 years
  • Hearing examination using an audiometer
  • Indicative eye examination
  • Spirometry
  • ECG
  • Ergometry
  • Echocardiography (ultrasound heart examination)

Results:

A brief examination after which your doctor will go through the results of your examinations in detail will follow approximately one week after a cardiology examination. You will receive specific recommendations and a report after a comprehensive assessment of all tests. The results can also be sent in an electronic form depending on your personal preferences. After a comprehensive assessment of all tests, each of our clients receives a detailed medical report. On the basis of these, they then obtain specific recommendations on what to avoid in their life and to prevent stereotypical behaviors in order to reduce the risk of illness. In the event of the detection of any health problems, your doctor will recommend ways of proceeding, further referring you to specific professionals in order to propose suitable treatment plans.

Further examinations sometimes recommended by the doctor following a preventive health examination may be recommended (based on family/personal health history, a clinic examination or laboratory results) and are not a part of the preventive examination. For an additional fee, they can also be carried out at CMC and can be one of the following:

  • Chest X-Ray (with abnormal spirometry results with smokers above the age of 40)
  • Holter monitoring for cases of suspected heart rhythm disorders
